Welcome to Afton Village Swim Club

Happy family in the pool

Afton Village Swim Club – 2020

email dated May 7, 2020

Everyone,

This aftonvillageswimclub at gmail account will be used for the time being given our recent troubles with our email account, so please mark this address as a safe sender.

In light of Governor Abbott’s recent May 5, 2020 order allowing swimming pools to reopen limited to 25% capacity, the Board has re-examined the status of the pool.  25% capacity, which is a 40 person maximum, is not financially viable to operate the pool.  We can, however, open at 50% capacity.  Therefore, we are currently aiming for an early June reopening if the capacity is increased to 50%.  Further, the Board needs time to put additional safety measures in place and to ensure proper sanitizing can occur when the pool does reopen.

We will be sending another email in the near future regarding sign-ups and new rules and safety procedures.

Best regards and we look forward to hopefully opening the pool soon,

Ty Sponsel

Everyone,

We hope everyone is safe and well in this uncertain time.  It is clear to us from comments from you that the Afton Village Swim Club would provide some much needed relief to the Cabin Fever we are all experiencing.  It is a reality, however, that the COVID-19 situation continues to severely restrict our activities.  With that in mind and based on the most recent guidance from Governor Abbott, the City of Houston, Harris County, and relevant health organizations, that the Afton Village Swim Club will not open at the beginning of May.

According to Governor Abbott’s April 27th announcement all pools must remain closed until at least May 18th.  When the next announcement is made, we will update you further as to when the pool can reopen.  However, whenever the pool does reopen, please know that there will potentially be new temporary rules in effect depending on the current guidance from the relevant governmental and health authorities.  Given all the uncertainties, at this time, the pool is not taking any pavilion rental reservations and has not opened up registration.  When registration does open up, we will email you and the early bird discount will start to run at that time.

With respect to Swim Team, at this time the season is on hold.  Governor Abbott’s announcement also made clear that people can start sports on May 1st, but it is limited to only 4 participants.  This obviously would not work for Swim Team.  Hopefully the Swim Team Season can be pushed back, but at this time, we do not know.

While no one can predict exactly what the future holds, we want you to know the Board is continuing to discuss when the pool might be able to reopen. We remain hopeful we will be able to resume some activity after May 18th.

Our best to everyone.  We will be back in touch soon.

Best regards,

Ty Sponsel
